Salukis win first match of spring season, 5-2, over Morehead State

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Saluki women's tennis team came away with its first win of the spring season as SIU defeated Morehead State, 5-2.
SIU swept the Eagles in doubles with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots and an unfinished match at the No. 3 position. Meagan Monaghan and Natasha Tomishima advanced to 9-3 at the No. 1 spot, and Vitoria Beirao and Polina Dozortseva, the No. 2 pair, moved to 2-2.
The Salukis came out on top in singles as well, winning four of six matches. Monaghan and Athena Chrysanthou took down their opponents in two straight sets, while Gisela and Ariadna Cairo Baza each defeated their opponents in three sets.
"Singles were a little up and down for us, but doubles looked pretty clean," head coach Audra Anderson said. "It was a good start for us overall."
The Salukis return to the court to face No. 63-ranked Louisville at 9 a.m.
