CARBONDALE, Ill. - After a five day break in action the Southern Illinois women's tennis team secured a 4-3 win against Cleveland State Saturday, extending its winning streak to seven matches.
Southern (7-3) picked up wins at the No. 1, 3, 4, and 5 spots to secure the win over the Vikings (2-8).
"We didn't play our best in doubles today, but we really made up for it in singles," said head coach Audra Anderson. "The girls did a really good job of staying focused and they took care of business."
Junior Natasha Tomishima continued her hot streak, picking up her fifth-straight win with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over CSU's Lauren Golick while Anita Lee won her match easily at the No. 3 slot, 6-4, 6-0.
Freshman Polina Dozortseva continues to impress, winning at the No. 4 spot (6-2, 6-3) to win her fourth straight. Ariadna Cairo Baza picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win over Alex Power to pick up her first win at the No. 5 slot of the year.
In doubles action Meagan Monaghan and Tomishima teamed up to take the No. 1 doubles matchup over Ellen Folkers and Alex Power with a score of 8-4. Korey Love and Lee fell to their CSU counterparts, 8-5 at the No. 2 slot and Dozortseva and A. Cairo Baza were defeated 8-6 at the No. 3 spot.
The Salukis next match will be in Nashville, when they travel to Lipscomb on Mar. 11. First serve is slated for 2:00 p.m.
