Salukis dominate Bearcats in first meeting

RESULTS
EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -Â The Southern Illinois University swimming and diving team took to the pool late last night for a weekday dual against McKendree University. The men's team took down the Bearcats, 125-54, and the women's matchup was ruled an exhibition.
The 18 event matchup started off with the 400-yard medley relay. Alex Crawford, Bobby Wood, Joao Facciotti, and Andre Brilhante would capture the victory with a time of 3:25.64, securing 11 points after one event. The Salukis would continue their quick start taking first place in four of the next five races. Senior Filippo Dell'Olio would beat the field by two seconds to take a victory in the 200-yard IM and the 200-yard butterfly, and Brilhante got a win of his own in the 100-yard freestyle. Junior Michael Wolfe would pick up a win and a second place finish in this stretch, winning the 200-yard freestyle and coming in just behind Dell'Olio in the 200-yard butterfly.
SIU would continue their great start in the second half of the meet. Crawford would get them going, finishing second in the 200-yard backstroke, recording a time of 1:55.15. The Salukis would finish the last three races on top. Senior Bobby Wood would edge out Joshua Lamb by .01 to win the 200-yard breaststroke. Newcomer Kevin Kluge would take the longest race of the evening, the 500-yard freestyle, by two plus seconds, finishing with a time of 4:43.10. The final race of the meet would be the 200-yard freestyle relay, where the Salukis would win recording a time of 1:28.77.
After two meets this season the men's team is a perfect, 2-0, winning each matchup by a margin of at least 70 points. Both the men and the women have this weekend off, but will be back in action next weekend at the UK Quad meet in Lexington, Ky.
