Women's Tennis falls to two nationally ranked opponents

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team suffered two losses today to nationally ranked Indiana (No. 49), and Old Dominion (No. 63).
SIU's first match of the day resulted in a 5-2 loss to Indiana. The Salukis' two points came from Xiwei Cai and Ana Sofia Cordero at the No. 1 and No. 4 singles spots, respectively.
"Our energy was just too low," SIU head coach Audra Anderson said. "That's something that cannot happen when you play a team of that caliber."
The second match against Old Dominion finished in a 4-0 loss for SIU. The Salukis dropped two doubles matches, losing the doubles point. In singles play the team quickly lost three straight matches, ending the match. SIU was leading or ahead in one set in the remaining three singles matches.
"In both matches we had our chances. You have to have all the pieces together to beat teams like the ones that we played today," Anderson said. "Xiwei Cai and Ana Sofia Cordero had a great day in both singles and doubles. It is unfortunate that they did not get to finish most of their matches."
The losses move SIU's overall record to 8-6, and 0-3 to nationally ranked opponents. The team will have some time off before they travel to Florida, where they will square off with Stetson on March 15 and North Florida on Mar.ch19.
