MANHATTAN, Kan. - Southern Illinois University women's tennis wrapped up its non-conference schedule today with a loss to BIG 12 opponent, Kansas State. The Wildcats took down the Salukis, 4-2.

The match started off in SIU's favor, picking up two doubles wins to secure the doubles point. Xiwei Cai and Ana Sofia Cordero, and Meagan Monaghan and Vitoria Beirao won their matches in extras. Each Saluki pairing has now won at least three doubles matches in the month of April.

Heading to singles play with a 1-0 lead, SIU was able to strike quickly, getting a win from Polina Dozortseva from the No. 6 spot. Dozortseva has now won seven matches in a row, and nine of her last ten. Unfortunately, that would be the only singles win Southern would be able to get, losing the other four matches that were scored. Cai and Cordero were both able to push their matches to three sets, but lost and were unable to finish.

"Doubles was great for us today," SIU head coach Audra Anderson said. "We played loose and aggressive. I am proud of how we battled, but we came up just short in the end."

The loss moves SIU's overall record to 13-10, with two matches still to play. Tomorrow the team takes on Wichita State, in Wichita, Kan., at 1 p.m.
