CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Salukis will try to make it two wins in a row Sunday, Jan. 15 when they host the Missouri State Lady Bears. Tipoff is set 2 p.m., and will feature the St. Louis Cardinals caravan, with several Cardinals making appearances and signing autographs. Tickets for the contest are just $2 and can be purchased here or by calling 1-877-SALUKIS.
  All-time vs. the Lady Bears
The Salukis and the Lady Bears meet for the 78th time in a series that dates back to the 1970-71 season. Southern trails the all-time series, 28-49 and last season snapped a nine game losing streak to Missouri State behind 23 points from Rishonda Napier. SIU's last four wins over the Lady Bears have come at home, and the Salukis will try to win back-to-back home games against Missouri State for the first time since the 1994-95 & 1995-96 seasons.
Current Salukis vs. the Lady Bears
Rishonda Napier comes into Sunday's contest averaging 15.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game in five career meetings against the Lady Bears. In SIU's 69-61 win over Missouri State on Feb. 19, 2016, the Burbank, Calif. native scored 23 points to help Southern snap a nine-game losing streak to the Lady Bears. In four games against Missouri State, Kylie Giebelhausen is shooting 42.1% from the field (16-of-38) and averages 10.7 points per contest. She had 18 points in last year's win at the SIU Arena.
Scouting the Lady Bears
Missouri State has won two-straight MVC games, posting wins over Wichita State (73-62) and Evansville (77-41). Southern and MSU shared one common non-conference opponent, Memphis, who defeated Missouri State 69-60 in the season opener for both teams. Liza Fruendt has led the Lady Bears in scoring nine times this season, with 19 points in each of Missouri State's past two wins. She is averaging 9.0 points and 2.0 rebounds per game in four career meetings against the Salukis.
Double-Doubles
Kim Nebo and Rishonda Napier posted double-doubles in the win over Wichita State, marking the first time since Jan. 8, 2016 vs. Bradley that two Salukis had double-doubles in the same game.
15+ helpers
The Salukis dished out 19 assists in the win over Wichita State Friday, the third-most they handed out this season. It marks the 7th time in the last 10 tries that Southern has finished with 15 or more assists in a game this season.
Threes in bunches
The Salukis made a season-high 13 three-pointers against Wichita State Friday night, marking the fifth time this season that Southern has made 10 or more in a game. It is the most games with 10-plus threes in a single-season in program history.
School Record for combined threes
Kylie Giebelhausen and Rishonda Napier broke the school-record for three-pointers made by teammates, as the duo made 12 of Southern's 13 three-pointers in the win over Wichita State on Jan. 13. The previous best was 11, set by Christine Presswood (4) and Teri Oliver (7) against Missouri State on Feb. 26, 2010.
Tied the school record
Kylie Giebelhausen tied the school record for three-pointers in a game with 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting from three-point range. The East Peoria, Ill. native became the sixth Saluki to make seven in a single game, which was last done by Rishonda Napier on March 17, 2016 against Western Illinois in the first round of the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI). The junior guard missed her first attempt from behind the arc but then rattled in six-straight without a miss.
Following Giebelhausen's lead
Giebelhausen also led the Salukis in scoring for the fourth time this season in the win over the Shockers, as she poured in 22 points. Southern is 4-0 this season when the East Peoria, Ill. native leads the team in scoring.
Moving Up the Ranks
With her 18 points in the win over Wichita State, Rishonda Napier is now tied with Char Warring for third on SIU's all-time list. The redshirt senior guard has 1,530 career points, which is the third-most of any current player in the Valley and the 27th-most among all NCAA DI players. Napier scored 15 of her 18 points by the 3-ball, and now has 242 career three-pointers. In addition to holding the school record, the Burbank, Calif. native ranks 14th in Valley history, needing seven to pass Michelle Nason (WIU/Bradley) for 13th.
Assisting her teammates
Napier tied her career-best with 11 assists against the Shockers, which is the seventh-most assists in a game in program history. It also moves her into fourth on SIU's all-time list with 369 helpers. She needs 13 assists to pass Angie Rougeau (1989-93) for third on the list.
In a club by herself
Kylie Giebelhausen reached 700 career points and became the only Saluki with at least 700 points/90 blocks/150 assists/70 steals/300 rebounds. The junior from East Peoria, Ill. has reached double-digits in 11 of SIU's 16 games this season, most recently posting 22 points in the win over Wichita State.
29th in 3-point shooting and 3 point defense
SIU ranks 29th in the nation in both three-point field goal percentage (36.9%) and three-point field goal defense (26.9%). The Salukis currently rank first in the Valley in both categories.
Corrigan's moving the ball
Carlie Corrigan's had three assists in the win over Wichita State, giving her 32 for the season- or four more than she had in 33 appearances a year ago.
Giebelhausen leads the league
Kylie Giebelhausen currently leads the MVC in three-pointers made (42), three-point fields goals per game (2.63) and three-point field goal percentage (42%). Napier is right behind her in two of the three categories, as she's made the second-most in the MVC this season (36) and the second-most per game (2.25). Since 1987, only three Salukis have finished the season leading the conference in three-point field goal percentage, with the last coming in 2008. That year, Erin Pauk shot 44.7% from downtown to lead the Valley.
Streak Ends
Rishonda Napier's consecutive free-throws made streak ended at 33. It's the longest in school history and tied for the 9th-longest in MVC history.
