Saluki Volleyball downs Indiana State, 3-1

The Salukis recorded a season-high 14 blocks in the four-set win over the Sycamores.
The Southern Illinois volleyball team downed Indiana State, 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19), Friday night in a Missouri Valley Conference clash.
The Salukis improves to 5-17 overall and 4-7 in league action while Indiana State falls to 7-16 on the season and 5-6 in conference play.
KEY MOMENTS
-After dropping the first set, 25-21, SIU rallied from a 10-5 deficit in set two with a 5-0 run to force an Indiana State timeout. Alison Thomas' second career service ace gave SIU a 17-14 advantage, but the Sycamores used a 3-1 spurt to get to within one, 18-17. The Salukis scored five of the next six points to open up a 23-18 advantage. The Sycamores then closed the gap with back-to-back kills, but SIU scored the next two, highlighted by Patience Brown's block of a sneak attempt by Indiana State's setter on set point.
-Both sides hit over .300 in set three, as SIU hit .361 and Indiana State hit at a .333 clip. Southern sided out late to pull ahead 23-21 on a kill Maggie Nedoma, and SIU again went to Nedoma on set point for the 25-22 win.
-SIU hit just .222 in set four, but forced nine Indiana State hitting errors and limited the Sycamores to a .049 hitting percentage in the 25-19 victory.
KEY STATS
-The Salukis recorded a season-high 14 blocks. It was the seventh time this season SIU has reached double-digits.
-Six Salukis recorded at least two block assists, led by Patience Brown and Abby Barrow. Brown had a career-best nine blocks (two solo, seven assists) while Barrow notched five total blocks, including a career-high two solo blocks.
-Patience Brown had a career-high tying 16 kills against just two errors for a season-best .519 hitting percentage.
-Five Salukis had at least seven kills, and six had at least five.
-Andrea Estrada joined Brown in double figures, as she put down 11 kills. She also added three assists and seven digs. Her third dig of the match was the 1,300th of her career, and she joins Kristie Kemner and Jennifer Berwanger as the only Salukis with 1,300 digs and 1,300 kills.
-Kolby Meeks had nine kills against just one error for a .381 hitting efficiency. She upped her hitting percentage on the season to a league-leading .357.
-Abby Barrow finished with seven kills, 10 digs, two aces and five total blocks in the win. She now has 988 career kills.
-Ashley Edelen recorded a team-high 15 digs in the win, which marked the 15th-straight match, and 19th match this season, that the senior libero has reached double figures.
-The setting duties were split almost evenly, as sophomore Alayna Martin tallied 24 assists and six digs, while freshman Rachel Maguire notched 22 assists and six digs.
