Salukis set to compete at 52nd annual Tennessee Relays

The Southern Illinois track and field team travels to Knoxville, Tenn. this weekend for the 52nd annual Tennessee Relays on Friday, April 12. The Salukis are one of 31 teams that will compete at the Tom Black Track and at La Porte Stadium.
The bulk of the meet schedule is set for Friday and Saturday with individual running events and relays on those days, respectively, in addition to several field events at Tennessee's newly renovated facility. A full schedule of when Salukis will compete and in what events is below.

Surveying the field: Tennessee Relays
The Tennessee Relays always attracts some of the top talent nationally, both collegiate competitors as well as competitors from the professional ranks. The 52nd edition of the Tennessee Relays will be no different, as 31 teams from across the country descend upon Rocky Top.Â
The 31 NCAA programs represented: Tennessee, Ashland (D-II), Auburn, Brown, Carson-Newman (D-II), Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Cornell, Duke, ETSU, Eastern Michigan, Findlay (D-II), Furman, High Point, Illinois State, Indiana, Jacksonville State, Kent State, Kentucky, Liberty, Louisville, MTSU, NC State, Ohio State, Penn, Pittsburgh, Southern Illinois, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and Western Kentucky.
Familiar Faces
A pair of former Saluki All-Americans are set to compete at this weekend's Tennessee Relays. Jared Kern is set to throw the shot on Friday at 7 p.m. while volunteer assistant coach Kyle Landon will partake in the high jump competition on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Leading the Valley
The Salukis lead the Missouri Valley Conference in 11 events heading into this weekend's meet. Bri'Anna Branch has the top times in both the 100m and 200m dashes while Willie Rodgers and Caleb Vogel are tied atop the MVC in the high jump. Southern currently has a total of 20 top-3 marks.

Ranked Regionally
The Salukis have 15 marks (6 women/9 men) that are ranked within the top-48 of the NCAA West Region through two outdoor meets. Both Bri'Anna Branch and Shauniece O'Neal catapulted to the top of their respective events after their performances at the Texas Relays two weeks ago while Adam Kessler has held strong in the men's shot put rankings with his mark from the Bill Cornell Spring Classic.

The Salukis have already notched nine top-10 school marks this outdoor season, led by Bri'Anna Branch's school record in the 200m dash at 23.19. Shauniece O'Neal has two of SIU's nine top-10 marks, as she currently ranks sixth in school history in the hammer throw and eighth in the discus.Â
