
Saluki Women Throttle Bearcats

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Saluki women swept away the Bearcats of McKendree 239-60 points, while the men trailed closely behind, yet falling short 141.5-156.5 in SIU's home opening meet inside Shea Natatorium Friday afternoon. The women took home first place titles in every swimming event, while the men found their groove in the backstroke and on the diving board.

Beating out teammate Mima Zaborska, freshman Ali Robertson surpassed the rest and garnered her second first-place title in the 100-breast (1:04.38) this season.
Her second of the season, freshman Celia Puildo took home another career three-peat (100-back, 200-back, 200-IM), along with teammate fifth-year Sierra Forbord (50-, 100-, 200-freestyle). Both women notched the first-place title a part of the 200-medley relay squad to start off the meet.
Sophomore distancer Fernanda Sanchez brought in more points for the Saluki women, pulling in nearly a leg ahead of her competition in the 1000-freestyle (10:34.82), and pacing herself with a 5:08.52 finish in the 500-free, followed closely behind by senior Eden Girloanta (5:09.40).
Freshman Jules Atkinson marked her first individual title of her Saluki Career. The Tennessee-native outswam in the 200-butterfly and timed in at 2:06.05.
Bringing the Salukis to the board, freshman Farida Moussa earned herself the top spot on the one-meter board, scoring 256.50.Â
Junior Adam Cernek notched a three-peat in the Maroon and White. The Slovakia-native won the 100- and 200-backstroke, while finishing up individual swimming events with a 1:52.63 finish in the 200-IM.
In an exact tie with McKendree's Gregg Lichinsky, sophomore sprinter Donat Csuvarszki shared the first-place title in the men's 50-freestyle, hitting the wall at 20.75 and splitting the points for the team tallies.
Junior Terry Yang swam the distance and gained length for the Salukis, timing in the 500-freestyle with a first place finish at 4:41.88.
Freshman diver Lee Haywood swept the board in men's diving, taking home 292.65 on the one-meter and 321.45 on the three-meter and has qualified for NCAA Zones in March.
