Scheiblein and Mircea named MVC Swimmer and Diver of the Week

ST LOUIS, Missouri -- The Missouri Valley Conference announced sophomore Melanie Scheiblein as the Swimmer of the Week, while senior Laura Mircea earned her second Diver of the Week recognition of the season.
In a Saluki battle of the breaststroke, sophomore Scheiblein surpassed teammate Ali Robertson in the 100- (1:03.37) and 200-breast (2:17.00), notching lifetime bests and first-place titles in SIU's first-place team finish at the A3 Performance Invitational over the weekend.
Along with teammate Farida Moussa, Mircea qualified for NCAA Zones with her 269.03 performance on the one-meter board in the Salukis' first-place win at the A3 Performance Invitational over the weekend. The Canadian marked her lifetime best on the board and the highest final score of either diving events in her SIU career.
SIU will break mid-season and be back in the pool for competition, Friday Janurary 14 at UIC.
