Salukis Ready for Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Southern Illinois University Saluki track and field program will take to the road and head to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to take part in the 2021 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by the University of Northern Iowa Feb. 26-28.
How to Follow
Coverage of the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships will be broadcasted on ESPN3 beginning at 4:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26. ESPN3 coverage will resume Saturday, Feb. 27, at 4:45 p.m. and will finish up on Sunday, Feb. 28, with the broadcast starting at 11:15 a.m. Live stats will be provided and can be found on SIUSalukis.com.
Bringing the Hardware Home
The Saluki men are hoping to bring home an indoor title for the first time since 2012, while the women are hoping to hoist the trophy for the first time since 2009. At last year's MVC Indoor Championships, the women finished second to Illinois State with a team score of 125, while the men tied second with Illinois State with 112 points.
MVC Pre-Championship Poll
The MVC Pre-Championship Poll was released on Wednesday, which tabbed the Saluki men to finish fourth. SIU tallied 49 points, finishing behind Illinois State (3rd, 67 points), Indiana State (2nd, 73 points) and Northern Iowa (1st, 75 points).
On the women's side, the Salukis were picked to finish fourth with 74 points. Southern trailed Northern Iowa (3rd, 76 points), Indiana State (2nd, 87 points) and Illinois State (1st, 100 points).

Against the Conference
On the men's side, Willie Johnson currently sits with the second-best time of 49.11 in the 400m for the Valley this season. Kyle Lind, ranked third in the 60m hurdles, is one of three Salukis sitting in the top-10 for this event. Southern Illinois will look to Kyle Zeinemann, Caleb Vogel and Dawson Plab in the field events. Zeinemann is ranked second in the Valley with his mark of 4.72m (15'-5.75") in the pole vault, while teammates Dawson Plab and Caleb Vogel sit tied for fourth in the high jump for the MVC with their mark of 2.02m (6'-7.5").
On the women's side, Iaunia Pointer ranks second in the 200m and third in the 60m for the Valley. Savannah Long currently holds the second best 60m hurdles time and is ranked within the top-twenty for the Valley in the 400m. Kayla Schiera holds the fourth best time for the 3000m and is ranked within the top-twenty for the Valley in the mile going into this weekend. The Salukis hold five of the top six best marks in the Valley this season for the weight throw with Shauniece O'Neal, Elisia Lancaster, Emily Kern, Kaitlyn Burson and Bri'Yanna Robinson all ranked nationally. A'veun Moore-Jones ranks first in the Valley and 12th nationally in the shot put alongside teammate Kayleigh Conlon who is ranked second in the Valley and 48th nationally going into this weekend. Erin Diemer (pole vault) and Trinity Daniels (triple jump) are both ranked within the top-five for the Valley in their respective events.
