The Southern Illinois men's golf team open the spring schedule on Friday, February 11th at the 2022 Pizza Hut-Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational, hosted by Southern Utah University. The 14-team field is set to tee off at the Sunbrook Golf Club, a par-72 course that spans 6,900 yards. Rated the best golf course in Utah twice by Golf Digest, Sunbrook Golf Course features beautiful views of red rock formations and the nearby alpine mountains. Pizza Hut serves at the title sponsor of the tournament, and the event is named after Pat Hicks, who made a very big impact on the Southern Utah University golf program.
The Salukis lineup will be senior Matthis Besard, senior Tom Cleaton, senior Markus Wilhelmsen, graduate Birgir Magnusson, and sophomore Justin Wingerter. Junior Andrew Thornton will compete as an individual.
SIU will tee off for the first round with a shotgun start on Friday, February 11th at 10:00am CT and play 18-holes. The weather forecast calls for sunny skies with a high of 72. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat. The second round will begin on Saturday, February 12th with a shotgun start at 10:00am CT, weather permitting, and the final round of 18-holes wrapping up on Sunday, February 13th.
