CARBONDALE Ill. – The Southern Illinois women's soccer team (4-9-2 overall) fell 2-0 to the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Cougars on Friday evening.

On honoring his seniors tonight
Even though we haven't been together long from a time perspective, it's still one of those things that puts a lump in your throat because they have chosen to invest their last opportunity to play collegiate soccer with us. The importance that means to me and our program cannot be stated enough. They have provided good leadership from just about how you go about your business and being good people. My comments in the video about Ashley (Moore) being so proud to be a Saluki has been something that has resonated with our kids. It reminds us why we are doing the things we're doing and the importance of leaving a lasting legacy beyond just the game we played tonight. One that will last for the future. The trust that they put in us and what it means to us means the world to me.
On the improvements he has seen over the season
Certainly, from a competitive standpoint, recognizing that you have to compete for ninety minutes. We're still learning some things the hard way, but we've had three matches in a row where I thought we had the right energy and the right attitude. Execution will continue to get better the longer that we're together. We played a good team tonight. We gave up an own goal and kind of switched off late in the game. We were competitive. Again, we're not dominating teams but we're closer than the score lines would show.
On what went right tonight
Definitely the attitude and how we showed up tonight. Again, I think that the consistency on gameday is something that has plagued us all season long until these last three matches. We have really showed up with a desire to represent the Salukis in the right way. It will always start with that. Again, it's up to me and the staff to get more of the execution part and getting the players more comfortable in their roles so we can start seeing the results we want to.
On what went wrong tonight
I think we shut off in certain moments. We were in it 1-0 against SEMO and gave up a goal in the last three minutes and we had a similar situation tonight. We turned off on a play and gave up a goal and those are some of the lessons that our young team is still learning. Teams want to win. Teams that are successful recognize that you keep winning regardless of what the score is until the game is over. We'll get it. I think that they're recognizing that they can't take any of those things for granted and that the commitment to finishing the game is going to be an important lesson to learn sooner rather than later.
On facing Dartmouth next
Dartmouth is a good program. They are having a great season. With them playing at home and being comfortable, that's going to be a big advantage for them. We've got to travel and will play on grass, which is a different surface than we're used to. We're going to have to make some adjustments. We've demonstrated that we show up with the right attitude and we're going there to get a result.
Up Next: The Salukis will hit the road to face Dartmouth College on Tuesday, Oct. 22 before returning home for the regular season finale on Nov. 2 against California Baptist.
