
Salukis Take Second At Indiana State Invite

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Southern Illinois University men and women's track and field programs each placed second on Saturday at the Indiana State Invitational.
In all, Southern combined for 12 event titles between the men and women.
On the men's side, freshman Willie Johnson won the 400 meter after clocking in a time of 49.89 seconds. Johnson later helped lead the Salukis to a victory as part of a 4x400 relay team that also consisted of Corey Sherrod, Ja'den Johnson and Omar Rodgers. The group combined to finish at a time of 3:22.79, a mark that stands as the sixth-fastest in the Missouri Valley Conference.
In the men's pole vault, Kyle Zeinemann claimed first after vaulting to a height of 4.58m (15-00.25). The Georgetown, Ind., native has now won the event in back-to-back meets. Junior Gary Glenewinkle finished third at 4.43m (14-06.25).
Over at the shot put, the Salukis placed three in the top-10, including Cole Taggart, who improved on his season-opening mark of 16.37m (53-08.50) to win the event with a personal-best distance of 16.87m (55-04.25).
On the women's side of things, freshman Iaunia Pointer continues to make her mark after finishing first in the 60 meter dash, 200 meter and as part of the 4x400 relay squad. Pointer's time of 24.39 in the 200 meter is a new personal-best, in addition to being the second-fastest time in the Valley this season.
Senior Savannah Long placed first in the 400 meter with a time of 59.43 seconds, while also taking first in the 60 meter hurdles after crossing the finish line with a time of 8.84. Freshman Stephanie Anthonies won her second collegiate event in as many meets after completing the 5000 meter run in 18:34.44
A'veun Moore-Jones continues to shine out of the season's gate, as the senior took first in the shot put with a new personal-best mark of 16.76m (55-00). The mark is the best in the Valley this season and stands as the 10th-best in the country. Her top mark in today's meet was nearly four feet further than any other competitor.
The Salukis will be back on the track on Feb. 26 when they head to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to take part in the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships.
