Swimming and Diving returns to action at Indiana State

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois swimming and diving program is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Indiana State for a tri-meet with the Sycamores and Ball State, starting at 12 p.m. CT at the Vigo County Aquatic Center.
Both the men's and women's teams will compete for SIU in their first competition of the calendar year and first meet since Nov. 18. The squads have been training in Carbondale the last two weeks, according to head coach Geoff Hanson.
"We're excited to get back to competing, and excited to face two, tough conference opponents," Hanson said. "Indiana State always swims us really tough and Ball State is much improved over last year. It will be a good test for both our men's and women's swimmers and divers."

Hanson said he's looking forward to seeing his men's 200 freestyle relay team compete. The four-man team of Mykyta Terentiev, Ruard Van Renen, Alex Santiago and Donat Csuvarszki are ranked No. 25 in the nation after setting school and Mid-American Conference records in November.
He's also excited to see how some of the younger squad members have improved during holiday break.
"On the women's side, I'm excited to see our freshmen in particular in their first run at the championship season," Hanson said. "They're not really freshman anymore, hopefully a little more experienced, confident."
