CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team (4-2-2)Â got its second home win of the season on Thursday night, defeating SIUEÂ by a final score of 2-1.Â
In the first half, neither side was able to find the back of the net. The Salukis had two shots in the first 45 minutes of play.Â
McKensey Bunch put the Salukis up early in the second half. Bunch netted her third goal of the season in the 47th minute of play, giving the Salukis the 1-0 lead. Shortly after, Hannah Elkebir would find the back of the net for the first time as a Saluki in the 54th minute.Â
The Cougars avoided the shutout with a goal in the 73rd minute off of a free kick.Â
Goalkeeper Fabiana Solano recorded two saves and started in her eighth-straight game.Â
"Now it's important to take some time and we're ready for the start of conference play next Thursday," head coach Graeme Orr said.Â
The Salukis will open Missouri Valley Conference play next week against Illinois State on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m.Â
