CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team (4-2-3)Â ended with a 0-0 draw against Illinois State on Thursday.Â
"I think it was a real battle between both teams. A draw is probably a fair reflection," head coach Graeme Orr said.Â
In the first half, the Salukis out-shot the Redbirds, 6-1. Ashlyn Henrie had the only shot-on-goal in the 20th minute. Henrie's shot was saved by goalkeeper Madi Valenti.Â
In the second half, the Redbirds caught up to the Salukis in shots with seven. Sophia Schlicklin led the team in shots this half with two.Â
At the end of play, the Salukis and Redbirds tied in shots with eight but neither team could find the back-of-the-net.Â
Goalkeeper Fabiana Solano made her ninth start of the season. Solano recorded two saves against the Redbirds.Â
The Salukis will be on the road next Thursday against Indiana State on Sept. 26 at 4 p.m.
